Intelligent blog commenting has become rare

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Sean and I are discussing the Daewoo Tosca, a.k.a. Holden Epica, on the Australian Car Advice blog. While Sean and I don’t see eye to eye, this is the sort of conversation that should be taking place: respectful, civilized and with an acknowledgement that the other party has a brain. Funny that I should have to note this: it means that on so many blogs and forums, this sort of behaviour is lacking today.

PS.: The things lacking in the photograph above are the word Taxi in Korean on the door, and one of those little ‘Best Driver’ taxi signs on the roof.

Marilyn Manson Discuss His Love Life and M.C.R

Metro caught up with Marilyn Manson for a Q&A, asking the rocker about his 19-year-old girlfriend and why he did such an explicit video with the actress.

[”I’m comfortable with being as crazy or out of control as anyone likes to think I am because it suits me well,” Manson explained. “With meeting Evan Rachel Wood, who is my girlfriend now, we wouldn’t have been expected to have anything in common until we just became friends. I realized that besides the fact I’m clearly the immature one in the relationship, she’s a twin in a lot of ways and her personality reflects a lot of things I felt I wasn’t supposed to be. It was at that point I realized all hope wasn’t gone. I was fortunate enough to realize this without a moment of clarity that involved religion or sobriety or flowers and puppy dogs. It was bringing hellfire and the devil back into my life – how it was meant to be – that reminded me I’m perfectly capable of existing in a hell of my own making.”]

In an interview with NME, the man claims that My Chemical Romance is “ripping him off”:

[”I’m embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I’ve done.”]

Green Day is With Rob

Greendayauthority, a Green Day fansite has reported that “there’s an article floating around saying that Green Day is switching producers (from Rob Cavallo to Linda Perry). Green Day’s management has let us know that it’s not true.”

Wilco Are Not Selling Out

Wilco have posted a message denying all claims of them “selling out” after allowing their songs to be used in a Volkswagen commerical:

[”As many of you are aware, Volkswagen has recently begun running a series of TV commercials featuring Wilco music.

Why? This is a subject we’ve discussed internally many times over the years regarding movies, TV shows and even the odd advertisement. With the commercial radio airplay route getting more difficult for many bands (including Wilco); we see this as another way to get the music out there. As with most of the above (with the debatable exception of radio) the band gets paid for this. And we feel okay about VWs. Several of us even drive them.

If you’re keeping track, this is not the first time Wilco has licensed a song to or even been involved in a commercial — most recently a TV spot for Telefonica Mobile in Spain used a Wilco song and some years prior Jeff Tweedy appeared in a campaign for Apple Computer. Wilco have licensed hundreds of songs to television shows and films worldwide… from festival-only indie films to major motion pictures and weekly TV shows.

Thus far the songs in the VW campaign are “The Thanks I Get” (a bonus track from Sky Blue Sky sessions, available for download via the Enhanced CD and via iTunes) and “You are my Face”. We expect to have more details re: other songs shortly. The current plan (subject to change, like everything) is for 5 or 6 songs to be used.

That’s it. Don’t believe everything you read unless you read it here.”]

Well-said.
